FORM: North Melbourne head into this fixture in North Ballarat on the back of a 17-point loss to the Swans in West Sydney. The Kangaroos were well and truly in the match until five players were taken off, and Sydney kicked home in the second half. Prior to that, the club snuck past Richmond by three points in the first of two round-robin matches in round one of the NAB Cup. Hawthorn comfortably accounted for the Kangaroos in the second fixture, winning by 25 points. The Bulldogs impressed against Carlton last week, winning by five points at Etihad Stadium in an entertaining encounter. In the first round of the NAB Cup, Brendan McCartney’s side only just defeated Greater Western Sydney by five points before they lost a close one to Collingwood by three points.
WALKING WOUNDED:
The Kangaroos will be without key defender Nathan Grima (knee) for the next three to four weeks and his absence will harm the club’s backline. Daniel Wells could play his first game for the club since being diagnosed with life-threatening blood clots. The 26-year-old was expected to miss a large chunk of the 2012 season and while he is not confirmed to play, the fact that he is named is encouraging for North Melbourne. Tom Williams’ shoulder injury soured the Dogs’ slender victory over Carlton last week. He will miss up to four months away from football in a serious blow to the club’s finals hopes. James Mulligan, Tom Hill, Brodie Moles and Andrew Hooper could all make their first appearance of pre-season with a host of draftees and rookies in the mix as they take an inexperienced side to North Ballarat. The likes of Matthew Boyd, Adam Cooney and Daniel Cross will all sit out Sunday’s match.
